BE Recruitment Ltd are working in partnership with a leading engineering client, based in Nottinghamshire, and they are recruiting for a Design Engineer to join their existing team.

The role of the design engineer will include

  • Aid in the design process for each contract and ensure each design is within the legal framework defined by each contract taking account of the geographical, political, legal, and cultural differences of each country.
  • Assist the Commercial and Projects team, provide support in proposal production and produce sales drawings and other information or renders as required, sign off all key documentation to ensure each contract is in line with customer requirements and specifications
  • Create detailed design and manufacturing drawings for components, assemblies and large structures
  • When appropriate liaise directly with the customer concerning design parameters to ensure an accurate design specification. This may require site visits
  • In conjunction with the Head of Design, Commercial and Project management team, ensure each contract meets customers’ requirements and specification.
  • Participate in internal team and other departmental meetings to ensure that design work is communicated and passed to manufacturing correctly and accurately.
  • Assist in the methodology for each project, and liaise where appropriate with the sub-contractors to ensure the correct design and implementation of each project is agreed and understood by all parties.
  • QA check the engineering output against the design drawings before shipment.
  • Create 3D models in Solidworks of all of our standard component parts and assemblies and associated drawings.
  • Maintain and support a drawing register and be able to transfer information from detailed design drawings into a bill of materials.
  • Assist in the research and development strategy for the company and partake in hands on product development as may be requested.
  • Provide support for the Head of Design and Projects team, ensuring that they have adequate design support for each project.
  • Liaise with Purchasing to ensure the technical specifications are fully compliant and agreed for each contract.
  • Assist Projects on site visits to ensure projects are built to design, and identify and potential unforeseen required changes to design.
  • Be responsible for and comply with the ISO9001 2015 standards at all times.
  • Engage with a continual PDP [Personal Develop Plan] with defined goals

Management Responsibilities

1. Development of Global Business Strategy

  • Drive innovation and change management initiatives forward to improve business performance in all areas.
  • In conjunction with the whole Design team, share knowledge to develop, train and motivate the team members to ensure they have the relevant skills and knowledge to function effectively.

2. General Management

  • Work effectively within Global EMC Ltd to achieve shared strategic objectives, including planning, quality, logistics and all support teams.
  • Plan and organise the effective use of resources to ensure targets are fully met
  • Review process designs, identifying areas for improvement and suggest appropriate courses of action
  • Communicate regularly with your line management regarding performance in all areas of the team
  • Ensure internal and external customer satisfaction through regular feedback, ensuring necessary corrective action is taken as and when appropriate
  • Promote and demonstrate a continuous improvement culture

3. Health and Safety

  • Promote and demonstrate a continuous improvement and positive behavioural culture, communicating effectively the company health and safety policies and standards.
  • Be aware of and identify any health and safety hazards and issues in the workplace, and communicate them, to the relevant team to enable them to take action.
  • Monitor safety, health and environmental performance.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current relevant regulations and standards

4. Continuous Improvement

  • Communicate and role model continuous improvement priorities
  • Recognise improvement ideas and actions
  • Promote the importance of excellence and best practice across the business

5. Other Responsibilities & Duties

  • Undertake any other duties which may reasonably be held to be within the scope of the post
  • Action any other reasonable business request as and when directed by the Head of Design.
